The Museum of the City of New York offers exhibitions that explore the city complex history from its early day as a Dutch Colony to its present eminence. Founded in 1923 the collection contains more than 3 million artifacts. Several ongoing exhibits document the theater in New York, and the city’s importance as a port, period rooms recreate interiors from the homes of prominent New Yorkers like J. D. Rockefeller, the collections also included maps, painting, fire engines, toys and much more! There is a notable 18th and 19th century silver collection with included pieces by Tiffany & Co.
