A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE MACY'S FLOWER SHOW
You may think Macy's Flower Show is a thing of the present, a marketing gimmick for Instagrammers and Tiktokers ... well, guess again. This annual event has been a beloved tradition for over 70 years. The very first show was held in 1946 in California at the San Francisco Macy's department store to promote fragrances. It was a small affair featuring just a handful of flowers. A few years after San Francisco began, New York City started having its own show (1953). Over the years, the show has grown in both size and scope, drawing crowds of thousands from around the world. Each year, Macy's transforms the NYC flagship store into a blooming wonderland, showcasing incredible arrangements that are as breathtaking as they are fragrant. From tulips to lilies, daisies to roses, the Macy's Flower Show is a true treat for the senses. So why not stop and smell the roses?
Not only New York wasn't the first is also not the only location, Macy's stages flower shows at 5 downtown department stores:
- Herald Square in New York City
- State Street in Chicago
- Union Square in San Francisco
- Center City in Philadelphia
- Downtown Minneapolis
THE PHOTO OPS: RAINBOW ARCH, GIANT LEAF-SHAPED CHAIRS & WHIMSICAL BOUQUETS
Not only these gorgeous floral displays are a feast for the eyes, but they also make for some pretty awesome photo ops. This year Macy's installed a giant Rainbow in the middle of the floor. So you can strike a pose next to a towering topiary, while sitting on one of the giant leaf-shaped chairs, or get silly with your friends right in front of the giant rainbow.
FROM SEED TO BOTTLE - THE DIOR COLLABORATION
This year Macy's launched a collaboration with DIOR transforming the mezzanine level into a lavishly romantic dreamscape with thousands of beautiful blooms.
