Why should you visit Staten Island?
There are several reasons why you should visit the Island located South of Manhattan ... One being the
beautiful and unique views of the New York Bay and the City that you can enjoy from here.
The Ferry that takes you to Staten Island leaves right
from Battery Park and is
completely free for both New Yorkers and Visitors alike. If you decide to take the Ferry, you will also have a wonderful view of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The ride is about 25 minutes long, and you can rest assured, they will be
25 minutes of beautiful photos especially if you take the Ferry around Sunset time!
INSIDER TIP: If you are in
New York during the Summer, we remind you that
Governors Island is open to the public and is served by another Ferry that leaves every 20-minute to 1 hour and it costs only $1. The view of the
Lower Manhattan Skyline on the return trip is unbeatable, along with Brooklyn and the Brooklyn Bridge.
Once in Staten Island, you will find the
oldest military installation in the country,
the Fort dates back to 1812, the
Garibaldi Meucci Museum and the histori
c City of Richmond for a dip into the past. As soon as you get off the ferry you will find the Memorial 9/11 "Postcard", two wings that spread open and frame the Skyline of Manhattan where the two Towers once stood tall. The city was also working on a brand-new Panoramic Wheel but for now the project has been put on hold.
