1-Mile Walks Around NYC // Exploring NYC Block-by-Block
01/19/2021
We are very excited to announce a NEW project for this NEW Year! We were trying to find some meaningful ways to connect with those that love NYC and would like to explore it virtually for now -- and hopefully in person one day ;-) -- while doing something a little more unique than the "same old same old" videos.
We have found a way to turn the miles we walk into charity contributions thanks to the organization called -- "Charity Miles".
Every mile we walk has the potential to raise $1 dollar towards the charity of our choosing. For now, Irene has selected FEEDING AMERICA the non-profit that helps bring food to those who cannot afford it. Just $1 helps with 10 meals!
THIS IS WHAT IRENE HAS TO SAY ABOUT HOW CHARITY MILES WORKS
Every mile I walk is counted towards what they call a "collective pool" which indicates all the app-users that like me have elected the same charity organization to donate to. At the end of each fiscal quarter, Charity Miles will use the corporate sponsors they receive to submit the corresponding donation to the charity I've picked. Some of the sponsors include Johnson-Johnson, Del Monte, Garmin, Brooks, Lifeway and more.
They estimate that every mile I walk has the potential to raise $1 of matched-donations from their corporate sponsors. Plus, friends, family, and followers have the ability to pledge extra support for each mile I walk starting at $0.5 cent per mile. If you want to help and pledge your support, you can find more info on the Current Cycle here -- https://pledge.charitymiles.org/pages/e3c4d4c6-e4a0-4044-9121-ad0eebb4d423
I've decided to create a Pledge Cycle to last about 1 month so that we can periodically reset it. Disclaimers -- I'm NOT affiliated (personally nor professionally) with Charity Miles nor to the Non-profit charity, I decided to support. The money doesn't go to me :-) -- You will be supporting the charity directly. Interested in reading more about how Charity Mile works? Read here -- https://charitymiles.org/faq/ "
You can follow Irene's updates on all the MILES she walks on Instagram via Stories and Posts. Plus, you will be able to see the actual Walks on our YouTube Channel.
This is a great way to do something to help others in need while giving everybody the chance to discover NYC Block by Block with our bi-weekly appointment on Youtube.
We have called it the "1-Mile(ish) Walk Project" -- NYC Block by Block // A Charity Walk. Each video is a walk around NYC of approx. 1 mile (more or less) and will last between 19 to 30 minutes. The Videos have original New York Sound ... meaning we won't talk over it. We rather NYC speaks for itself. And to keep the walk entertaining, we will add anecdotes, fun facts, and info via captions and titles.
The first walk Irene did was on Sunday and it will be published on our Youtube Channel on Wednesday January 20th at 11 AM (NY Time)
We will try to keep our appointments consistent -- every Wednesday and Saturday at 11 AM.
If you have special requests or suggestions, let us know, as always we are happy to share this project with all of you and grow together.
